1972 Town Hall Charges

09/08/2017

The builders uncovered a load of old papers up in the clock tower this week…. they all seem to be from the 1970s, there is a set of minutes, several dinner invitations and a ‘Scale of Charges’ for the ‘Hire of the Town Hall, Brackley’… it makes for interesting reading!

The paper is well worn and is falling apart, but it is still legible…

£1 in 1972 would be worth just over £9 today, so it was great value to hire the hall back then! Although you did have to provide your own stewards, sort out your own music rights and you got no time for set up unless you pre arranged it with the council, you also couldn’t affix anything to the building.

What a fantastic document!

Can you remember functions in the Town Hall from the 1970s? Let me know!
